No Easy Answers The Truth Behind Death at Columbine High School Brooks Brown Rob Merritt Books

I would like to start off by saying I feel that Brooks Brown, Robyn Anderson and certain other members of the Trench coat Mafia know something to this day that has not been disclosed about this event. What i'am saying can be taken as wrong and insensitive. I feel that in this case, Brooks Brown jumped on the media wagon way too fast personally I think the individuals named above had had a couple hours prior knowledge about the event and they were informed by a Mr. Dylan Klebold behind Mr. Eric Harris's back. So lets begin the review...

Brooks uses the term bullying a lot along with the word racism. He doesn't ever mention the times where Klebold and Harris would state "Hail Hitler" every time they made a strike in bowling class he does mention how Dylan called Isaiah Shoels a ethnic slur before executing him and how Harris shot and killed a Mr. Kyle Velazquez, a man who suffered from moderate down syndrome a man who has never hurt anyone in his life a man who only's real crime was probably stealing from the cookie jar. I have done research on bullying and frankly it is a two-way street, I dont condone it by any means but to say Harris and Klebold were complete victims is downright wrong. He does mention how he was being bullied by Harris at one point then he was like WTF? but he blames everything on the hostile condition of Columbine High School and doesn't list names doesn't give specific examples of what happen to Eric and Dylan only they had a bottle thrown at them one time that landed on the ground. When I was ten years old in Camarillo, CA I had a firecracker thrown at me by teenagers at a local park. So boo-hoo for the columbine commandos.

There is also a chapter devoted to Rachel Scott who I have no doubt would of been the perfect girlfriend. I do feel for his friend Steven, and I myself got a little emotional in regards to that chapter I probably would of been hysterical had I seen the body of my dead ex-girlfriend I would of been livid. Yes I agree with brooks that was very wrong of the church to do. However I want answers on Dylan and Eric not on Rachel.

Something that brooks and myself see eye to eye is that we can both care less for the very underfunded U.S Department of Education and we could even give less of a damn for high school which I also agree sweeps problems under the rug as mentioned in this book. Yes I hate to admit this there was a time where I sympathized with what Harris and Klebold did, I regret that now that I have studied all the facts and that I grew up. If it was really that bad for Harris, Klebold and Brown they could of left like he mentions the one girl who's name is not mentioned did and even performed better like she did. So obviously it wasn't as bad as you made it out to be brooks.

The reason this review is soo critical is for the reason how brooks went on tangents that were more so about himself than Eric or Dylan everything brooks discussed were things the mainstream media already informed us of. Currently the Untied States is going through a period where school shootings have become a trend, this needs to stop! Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold have created the blueprint for the modern school shooter. I think I have the answer but to be sure it would be best for this man to go back look over the years carefully and see what he missed.

No Easy Answers The Truth Behind Death at Columbine High School Brooks Brown Rob Merritt Books Reviews

In April of 1999, I was 18 and had graduated from high school the previous year. I was different, an outcast my Junior year in high school. I had a small band of friends. People picked on us, threw food at us at lunch and called us the freaks. I was miserable. I skipped school a lot, I cried a lot & I in general hated my school mates. My grades dropped & I was clinically depressed. What I went through at school greatly affected the rest of my life. So much, in fact, my parents allowed me to switch schools my Senior year. It was a completely different atmosphere. Everyone got along, there were no nerds or "freaks" everyone was friends.I truly believe now that my parents allowing me to change schools saved me. That's my background, so, when the massacre at Columbine happened, I understood, to a degree what could possibly push someone to the very edge and make them want to have revenge, or even just finally have a voice. I am not condoning what Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did at all, but I do have empathy for their situation at school.

I followed the news coverage with the rest of the nation. I cried with the rest of my generation over the images of people our age being mass murdered by our peers. In the almost 13 years since, I have read articles and watched all of the documentaries. I read the boys' journals online and around 1,000 pages of the Columbine report. I have seen both Zero Day and Elephant. But, Brooks Brown's story has always hit close to home with me, because he was like me, a victim of bullying and his perspective on what his friends did seemed more "real" to me than a journalist or even another students, based on his intimate knowledge of the lives of both Eric and Dylan.

Columbine has always been very real to me. I was shocked that anyone my age could be capable of such complete devastation. I have two sons now, whom I have home schooled largely because of the Columbine tragedy. I have nightmares to this day involving running down a long hallway of lockers, my heart pounding and hearing gunshots and screaming in the background. As a stranger, I was that bothered. I couldn't imagine what actual friends and enemies of the shooters went through. Therefore, I delayed buying this book, because of the raw emotion I knew I would feel reading it. And I did cry, and I stayed up quite late a few nights to contemplate Mr Brown's story.

This book is written by not only a survivor, but by someone who's best friend did something infamous, and ruined his reputation in the process. It is not only a story of Brooks friendship with the killers, but also a story of being bullied by the people who failed to protect the Brown family and, as it turned out, an entire town as well, from Eric Harris.

I loved this book for it's honesty and for it's truth. I love that it is written from Brooks Brown's POV, rather than a regurgitation of media coverage and forensic opinions. I really appreciate that this book was written and I hope that if you are trying to decide between this book, and the book by Dave Cullen, that you choose this one. Like the title, there are no easy answers, there is only the truth.
This is probably the best book I’ve read regarding the Columbine massacre. Probably because it contains first-hand information from an intelligent young friend of the killers as well as one who witnessed the unpunished bullying that doubtlessly pushed Dylan and Eric over the edge. Brooks is a brave young man; seriously, I can’t image what he and his family went through. Ignored or persecuted by the inept police and legislators, he still pursues his dream of making a better world. Bravo, Brooks.
