I was drawn into this book in the beginning. I thought the hero, Dr. John McCutcheon was interesting. I also liked the heroine, Lily, although I thought her English was awfully good for someone who had come from Germany just 18 months ago. The last half of the book, especially the last quarter just got too involved with too many bad guys, too many confrontations, too many escapes, too many thwarted romances, etc. ****************************SPOILER ALERT*********************When the 'man in black' showed up, my first thought was 'Paladin.' Then when it turned out that he was a bounty hunter and his name was BOONE, I totally lost it. Apparently the author has been watching old re-runs of "Have Gun Will Travel" starring Richard Boone! (I have tapes of that show. Love it!) From that point on, every time someone mentioned the name Boone, I had to laugh. It did spoil things for me. And, when the secondary hero left his true love locked in a room with a rattlesnake and went for backup, well...I wouldn't have had him on a bet after that. Her brother seemed to think it was alright, though. I would much rather have risked a gunshot than a snake bite. Just me, I guess. There was also a rattlesnake in the privy at the school. It escaped the privy by a hole in the floor and so the hole was covered up and it was considered 'safe' to use. Hmm. What about the LARGER hole in the privy? How darned safe was it? (I think only one rattlesnake should be allowed per novel. Let's make that a new rule.)***********************END SPOILER ALERT************************ For the most part I did enjoy the book and I will probably try another one by this author. No language or sexual situations to offend any reader

Texas Twilight McCutcheon Family Series Book 2 edition by Caroline Fyffe Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Just out of school, John is heading to Rio Wells, Texas, to set up his first physician's practice, glad that his uncle and his family will be close by while he's starting out, intending to send for his fiancee Emmeline once things are up and running, but he meets Lily on the stagecoach and finds her enchanting. There is so much going on in this, you can't help but be riveted until the very end. Beside John and Lily, three or four other couples are dancing around each other, there is mystery around Lily's aunt and her motives for taking them out west, and starting with the attack on their coach, shady characters and intrigue are swirling the town like flies, not to mention John's sister Charity making the hasty decision to drop in unannounced all the way from Montana. I loved this story! Lily and John were both strong, honorable characters and I liked that Lily was honest with him about everything from the start, building a strong friendship between them, while it wasn't possible for it to be anything more. I look forward to the next installment in this series! Hopefully, it will be Brandon and Charity's story!
Very Well written story. This story had several plots going at the same time throughout the entire book - all different - two or three love interests; some mystery; a theft. To me this 2nd book of the series was far better written than the first book. The first book of course introduced the McCutcheon Family; but otherwise was the same off again and on again romance between the same two people the entire book and was becoming quite strung out and boring. NOT THIS 2ND BOOK!! There was something new and different happening as all these plots played out. It was interesting; very well written story; good character development and kept me interested from first to last page. Never Boring. Hope the rest of the series is the same. Kudos to the Author Carolyn Fyffe for bringing great story to us. I'm off to the 3rd book and looking forward to it.
,Very well written, John the youngest McCutcheon son has graduated medical school and accepts a job near his aunt, uncle and cousins. On his trip to Texas their stage is attacked and 3 of the passengers killed. He gets a shock when the office is not ready and the old doctor has not retired.
There are a lot of surprises and a lot of suspense.
I like this series although this one was slow in parts, it did add some depth to the story. John McCutcheon is traveling to his first post as a new doctor taking over for retiring Dr Bixler in Rio Wells Texas. Although engaged to Boston debutante, Emmaline, he finds Lily beautiful (she is a German immigrant). She & her Tante Harriet Schmidt are also traveling to Rio Wells to open a dress shop and paid ahead but when they arrive they find that Mr Shellston, the banker, is now the owner; he says never received their money and he leased to someone else. Lots of shady characters are coming to Rio Wells; Lily found a large emerald in her aunt's luggage by accident; also they left Boston in the dead of night; she wonders why? Now this stranger, Lector Boone, has come looking the missing jewel. Also John's little sister, Charity, steals away from the McCutcheon ranch in Montana. She has a feeling John needs her. He hasn't been home since he left for Harvard. Now the mayor and Mr Shellston want Charity to be their interim school teacher-they can't keep teachers-last one was killed. Charity is a feisty, no-nonsense girl and seems Lector Boone likes her and actually seems to like her spirit. I did wonder where the author was going with this sense Brandon Crawford the sheriff in Montana is the intended love interest. Anyhow Boone turns out to really be a cold blooded murder - don't know if he was hired to find the jewel or what. Brandon tracks her from Montana to Texas (not happy about it); he saves her from Comancheros; they rediscover their love for each other. Seems to be a lot going on then Emmaline shows up in Texas from Boston and John is torn. Lily is heartbroken even though she knows he is engaged. Texas cousin Dustin McCutcheon who loves Lily too isn't happy but John has saved his brother Chaim's life so he accepts it when John eventually wins Lily - the end is a sweet, happy one however and the loose ends seem to get tied up pretty well. Passionate romance without the detailed sex scenes; you can feel the love John & Lily and Brandon & Charity have for each other. diamondgirl
