Across the Ocean Hawa L Crickmore Books Reviews

Super Great Book, Great Read. I would suggest his book to everyone.
The plot was interesting and I really like the characters! The writing left some too for improvement as did the flow of the book. But overall, it was a good, quick read that makes you think further if race relations...
Quest to find out how two men who appear to be distinct are more alike than thought.
I really enjoyed this book, the characters and the story was well developed, it was intriguing since the first chapter.
Loved that the author gave back story to the two main characters, allowing the reader to see how the men came to be.
the only reason i do not give this a five star is because I wish it would have had a bit more to the ending. Having said that I do think the ending was good, it closed off all storied. I recommend this book if you are looking for a quick read.
I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Across the Ocean is a real page-turner. I know we hear that phrase all the time these days, but for me this book really fits the bill. Crickmore has created such compelling characters that drive the story on in a real rollercoaster-ride. There some pulling-at-the-heart-strings moments, some thrilling parts, and moments of real tenderness as well. Pretty much everything you’d want from a novel of this kind. The writing is strong and language not overblown like a lot of authors tend to do to make themselves seem more capable, but taught and pacey. This is the first time I’d heard of Crickmore and sadly this is the only book available right now, but I’m now eagerly awaiting a new release.
A beautiful story that begins with the chance encounter of two very different people, and what transpires from that one moment. The two protagonists, Martin and Leroy are incredibly well formed with such levels of depth and complexity that you always feel there is more to learn.

The synopsis says partly based on true events, and at times I did find myself wondering which they may have been. You’ve heard the saying ‘There’s nothing stranger than truth’ so maybe the most out there aspects of the story are actually those that are based in real life events. But either way this is a beautiful and moving story that I am so glad I discovered.

Definite 5 stars. I recommend giving it a go.
This story is a wonderful read. Two strangers looking to get dinner. The restaurant is busy so the men agree to share a table. One is a black man, with a large family, from America. The other is a white man, with no family, from England. Their easy conversation leads to a strong friendship. The events that follow are so wild, they can only be true.

A young woman, devastated by heartbreak, finds hope after beginning a new job. Will her past make finding happiness difficult?

I loved reading this book, however, some parts were worded in a way which made the timeline difficult to follow. It’s probably just me, I tend to read more literally and less abstractly. The author was able to set me back on the right road.

The ending was absolutely amazing! I can only imagine the thoughts and emotions experienced by the family as each fact was revealed. Thank you for sharing this story, Hawa!!
This is a wonderful story about the effects of migration, voluntary or not, on human genetics. Martin, an English white cage fighter, meets Leroy, a black American immigrant, casually at a restaurant where they eat together and gradually become friends. When Martin becomes sick, the test results show that he suffers from a strange disease and is in urgent need is a marrow transplantation. As he doesn't have any siblings and his patentsare dead, his friend Leroy offers to be tested and hailed to be a match. Then begins the adventurous story about the past, beginning in Ghana in times of slave trade and their distribution to England and America.
It is a very interesting and moving book that tells about the sufferings of an African family and their three sons who are sold, the youngest to an English family, and the other two are shipped to America. This story shows the injustice and segregation of human beings in the 19th century, being the "white" and Christian population those who think themselves superior to those with dark skin, until inn the 21st century these same facts end up uniting three in many ways very different persons.
It has been a very enjoyable read, the plot and the characters are very well developed and lively described.
I enjoyed the plot! It captured my full attention! Once I started reading I couldn't stop until I had finished.
